Topic: FTP shares

Message: See the post I just wrote about where to place your configuration directives in the OpenFiler templates so you don't have to manually tweak each time you make a change: https://forums.openfiler.com/viewtopic.php?id=1249I used the DefaultRoot directive myself, but the HideFiles directive may be better for your case. At least my example should help you place the directive properly.

Topic: ACL issue when Mac clients connecting to share?

Message: Hello All,I have a network share using OpenFiler/Samba/Active Directory 2003 setup on a SansDigital TowerRaid. There are no problems when connecting to it from XP clients but when connecting from a Mac client most, but not all of the top level directories are inaccessible (insufficient access privileges error).Even more baffling to me is that the security (groups) on the accessible and inaccessible directories appear identical.I should note that our Mac users do not login to Active Directory, they connect to the share from their local accounts and authenticate upon connecting.I was able to get around this problem on my own Mac by logging in to the domain rather than my local account...after which I had no problems accessing any of the directories.I'm hoping there may be a solution that doesn't require asking my Mac users to start logging into the domain as this will open a new can of worms.Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Topic: Who the heck is "USERS\nobody" and how do I get rid of him?

Message: I'm not sure about this, but I know there is a nobody user on linux systems. I was wondering if you had deleted one or more users. The files they created would still exist, but (I think) the user ID wouldn't have an entry.Again, I'm no expert on this, and I'm just guessing. I'd really like to know if you did delete a user or two, though.Edit:Are you looking at the owner/permissions from a Windows machine?

Topic: user/group access don't work unless set as primary group

Message: Hi,Here's what I have:I have a shared folder and I have two groups. The idea is that group1 should have full access rights to the folder while group2 can only view the contents of the folder. I set group1 as the PG with RW permissions. I then set group2 as only having RO permissions. When I go to my network and log on as a user of group1(PG) I can access the folder and view the files inside. But when I log in as a member of group 2 it says 'Network Access Denied". It seems only the group set as PG can view the contents of the folder.Hope you guys can help me. More power. :)

Topic: Change ACLs through Windows/Samba...

Message: I want to know how I can enable OpenFiler to allow me to modify the ACLs of sub directories I create. I have basic permissions set for the shares in the OF GUI, but I want to assign specific permissions to the sub directories I create through Windows. Can someone point me in the right direction for this? Thanks!

Topic: Apple Mac OS X 10.5 : can't copy file on samba share

Message: Oh, I misses the directories that OS X writes in his filesystem. Is there a solution to avoid OS X writing this files ?I've decided to build a completely new linux system "from scratch"On a samba share without any RW restrictions it works well now.Next step : users and some RW restrictions...I will tell if it works better than with Openfiler.
