Message: Yeah, you should be able to do that from the command line, just as you'd mount a NFS share on any Linux box.

Topic: External NFS Export

Message: Is it possible to mount an external NFS export (located on another NAS) directly to the openfiler server? I have a large amount of data that I have to move to the openfiler box and instead of going through another machine (like I have been), I would like to mount this NFS export on the Openfiler server and initiate the mv command from there. Is this possible? Has anyone done this?

Topic: IP config on appliance in ESX?

Message: Found it finally - couldn't find any solid docs here, but google and a redhat help page seemed to point me in the right direction.I needed to go to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts I made a backup of the files, then I used nano to edit the ifcfg-eth0 file and changed BOOTPROTO=noneadded IPADDR=n.n.n.nNETMASK=GATEWAY=DNS=n.n.n.n, n.n.n.nhit Ctrl+O, then Ctrl+X, then typed in rebootMight be a bit klunky for some folks, but I'm uber rusty on unix/linux.

Topic: IP config on appliance in ESX?

Message: I just tried and got the appliance to boot on an ESX machine, but there's no IP configured and no prompts came up to change it. Is there a tech article on how to set up the networking? It's on a subnet without DHCP. I'm at a root login on the console, as the openfiler attempted login says "This interface has not been implemented yet." Thanks,Dan

Message: I am having similar problems as I need a kernel update badly. OpenFiler is by far a superior SAN/NAS solution however being stale for 18months is kind of worrisome.

Topic: HOW TO RESOVLE:This interface has not been implemented yet?

Message: Hi y.bin,I had the same problem you have been having after the fresh setup. For the Web access the username is 'openfiler' and as previously stated the username for the shell is 'root'.However it wasn't until I rebooted the appliance via the web interface that I was able to access the shell. With just the username 'root' (i.e. no password).Hope this helps.Regards,Cam

Message: Well, not shure what you consider "not possible".Works fine here from an USB-Flashstick.Just search the forum and you will find a detailed step-by-step instruction on how to do this. It is true, it is not working "out of the box", but the effort is really minor ...CDS

Openfiler appliance on XenServer 5.6 and adding a disk in Openfiler : Openfiler Appliance

Topic: Openfiler appliance on XenServer 5.6 and adding a disk

Message: I had some success here. I deleted and re-imported t he appliance but this time I told it not to auto start. Instead I gave it an additional local storage (to be used for the VM repository) where the openfiler va was on /dev/xvda and the additional openfiler volume group will be on /dev/xvdc. I then started openfiler and since I was not using dhcp the networking failed. I edited the network config and assigned it a static IP, and I was able to access the OpenFiler administrative console. And low and behold the block devices appeared And I was able to proceed. I then updated openfiler and then they disappear again! I restarted and left it overnight and they are back again, strange! Now I want to get the Xen Tools installed but Openfiler is running read hat 4.2 and is unsupported with Xentools. Anyone had any luck upgrading the OpenFiler OS to 4.5 or above?Do you really need to run xen tools on openfiler VA?

Message: Well I tried to install the Xen-Tools to see if that was causing the issue but I get an error message blkfront: xvdb: barriers enabledAnd it will not allow me to install them so I am not sure what is going on. I am running this on a Dell R710 server with a raid array I can run VM's all day long on it just can't get Openfiler to recognize the raid/mount points.
